Abstract

This project is broken into two parts with the intent of demonstrating the intricacies of producing a piece of fantasy literature. Part One is a short, original piece of fantasy writing. Part Two identifies components important to writing fantasy—character, plot, setting, and structure—provides examples from The Name of the Wind, by Patrick Rothfuss, demonstrates how these components appear in a published book, and demonstrates how these components are included in the story from Part One by comparing the final product to previous drafts and highlighting how the changes were incorporated.
