Event Title

Sociological Abstracts: What happened to the sociology?

Location

Burlington Vermont

Start Date

8-13-2013 2:35 PM

End Date

8-13-2013 2:50 PM

Description

The presentation was an illustration of the large proportion of records in Sociological Abstracts not representing sociological research. The author's work with a class of upper level sociology undergraduates showed him that students were having great difficulty locating appropriate literature despite using Sociological Abstracts. Social work, psychology, and other disciplines appear to have an outsized presence in the database. No real conclusions are possible at this time but the author plans to continue his investigation into this issue.
