Abstract
Environmental endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) are one of the largest public health concerns today. EDCs can be found in the environment, food sources, and household products. One category of these chemicals is per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), and perfluorooctane sulfonate (PFOS), a type of PFAS, binds to thyroid hormone receptor beta (TR?) and has anti-thyroid effects that disrupt the normal function of thyroid cells such as aiding in development and metabolism. TR? suppresses tumors by maintaining differentiation and function, so my goal was to focus on how exposure to PFOS drives dedifferentiation in normal thyroid cells.
