Abstract
In this Honors English thesis, I hope to articulate how modern young adult fiction has taken the "coming out" trope of the nineties and adapted it. To do so, I will be examining two relatively popular novels, Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, by Becky Albertalli, and The Miseducation of Cameron Post, by Emily Danforth. Through these books, one published in 2016, the other published in 2012, I plan to show the ways in which the queer narrative trope of "coming out" has evolved and question, theorize, how and why it will continue to develop. This paper will ideally shed light on modern fiction, queer lit, and their power.
