Abstract
Urban college campuses introduce complex dynamics that affect how students navigate their campuses and cities. This study employed a critical geographic perspective to discover the nature and extent of safety concerns for University of Vermont students living in Burlington. The primary research methods to gather and analyze data included surveys, traditional interviews, and ‘walking interviews,’ as well as analysis of summary campus safety data provided by the project’s community partner, the Office of Student-Community Relations. The main goals of this research were to highlight student voices, provide recommendations to the university, and add new insights to this field of study.
