Abstract
The negative impacts of tillage on the agroecosystem are well documented in the literature. A crop roller and mower conditioner were used to terminate a winter rye cover crop in preparation for a Cucurbita pepo crop. This research sought to determine the impact of winter rye termination method on weed density, fruit number, and depth to plow pan. Weed density between treatments was not significantly different. Fruit number was significantly earlier and greater in the mower conditioned treatment. Depth to plow pan was less in the mower conditioned treatment. The mower conditioner is a promising method for winter rye termination.
