Abstract
In light of the heroin epidemic in Vermont, there have been varied responses that render the crisis in black and white, offering an oversimplified portrait of victims and perpetrators, users and dealers, right and wrong. In Dissolution, I present a collection of poems based on my personal experience of the heroin epidemic as it affected and continues to affect my hometown. The collection explores various forms and ultimately interweaves lyric narrative performative style with documentary poetics. Through this fusion of styles, Dissolution focuses on turning a humanizing eye towards the crisis, the effects, and the affected.
