Abstract
This infographic project is for my BCOR2300 course which is a semester long recitation project where we get to explore and research a topic of our choice which establishes the link between how important genetics are to society. I am very interested in the link between treated cancer through pharmacogenomics and how important it is to society. COMPASS research trial focuses on patients with advanced pancreatic cancer, specifically PDAC, a very harsh form of pancreatic cancer. In this observational study blood samples and tumor biopsy from 268 patients with PDAC was put through genetic testing such as Whole Genome Sequencing. Besides WRS, researchers used RNA analysis and protein testing to identify two subtypes of PDAC: classical subtype, basal-like subtype. Through this study scientists were able to conclude that although patients may have the same type of cancer, there is different subtypes which are lowering survival rate and treatment response. Now that scientists understand that there are different treatments based on the genetic makeup of the tumor, methods of resistance can be studied further.
