Abstract
This project developed a simple colon cancer screening guide tailored to rural farming populations in Vermont, addressing a documented disparity in which rural residents are significantly less likely to be up-to-date on colorectal cancer screening compared to their urban counterparts. The guide compares all major screening options: colonoscopy, Cologuard, and the FIT test. It emphasizes accessible, low-burden alternatives that fit realistically into the demands of a farming lifestyle. By meeting rural patients at their primary point of medical contact with clear, actionable information, this intervention aims to improve screening awareness and uptake in an underserved population where early detection has the greatest potential to reduce both cancer mortality and the downstream financial burden of late-stage diagnosis.
