Abstract
The Farm Fresh Food Boxes (FFFB) model is a food systems innovation that connects small farmers with rural grocery and convenience stores. Customers order and pick up the Food Box at the store and the farm drops off the Food Boxes weekly for the store to distribute. The FFFB model aims to stimulate rural economies by providing farmers with an additional direct-marketing opportunity and rural grocery and convenience stores with increased foot traffic and by increasing consumer demand by reducing barriers for rural consumers who are unable to pay for a season’s produce up-front in the Community Supported Agriculture model. This presentation will provide an overview of the FFFB model, measure and analyze the acceptability and use of FFBs among consumers and compare benefits and barriers of FFBB model to consumers with other direct sales approaches, namely farmers’ markets and traditional CSAs. This will be doing by analyzing the 2018 Post-Purchaser Surveys, in which consumers took a survey after purchasing a FFB.
