Abstract
The purpose of this project is to produce a body of paintings exploring anxiety and discomfort and the way they are communicated, especially in the current generation that has reached adolescence in the age of smart phones and social media. The work will be informed by Michel Foucault’s book Madness and Civilization and in conversation with several modern and contemporary artists. The paintings will reflect and examine the contemporary moment in which they were made. This will be developed through a close exploration of the current cultural climate specifically concerning anxiety. The project will also yield a written defense of work and analysis of contemporary artists.
