Abstract
Sparse guidance on choosing a normative sample for the Static-99R, an actuarial risk assessment, has led to evaluator misuses when predicting sex offender recidivism. Research has shown the Borderline (BOR), Aggression (AGG), and Antisocial (ANT) scales of the Personality Assessment Inventory (PAI) as possible predictors of recidivism. The current study evaluated 183 cases of adult male sex offenders with a completed PAI and Static-99R. Scores on the ANT (p=.341) and BOR (p=.311) emerged as the strongest correlators to Static-99R risk category. Results offer the PAI as a resource when choosing a normative sample and preventing adversarial allegiance in Static-99R interpretations.
