Abstract
Farmers' markets can contribute to food resilience and community development. Vermont, although a small state, is widely recognized for its leadership in local food movements, with an extensive network of farmers’ market and a deep commitment to sustainable agriculture and food systems. This study investigates farmers' markets Vermont, using a six-year longitudinal dataset. These data were collected from 2018 to 2023 by a statewide farmers’ organization. We intend to investigate the trends, challenges, and outcomes of these farmers’ markets over time. Our analysis focuses on four key areas: management, performance, barriers and resources, and changes that occurred over time. By examining these categories, the research aims to understand how management practices and resource allocation in farmers' markets impact their operational effectiveness and overall performance. Additionally, we seek to summarize changes and adaptations over this period and identify and propose solutions to common barriers that challenge market resilience.
