VTI13 and VPS26C:?The Intersection of Trafficking, Cell Wall Organization, and Root Growth in Arabidopsis

Abstract
The connection between endosomal trafficking and cell wall organization provides an opportunity to better describe proteins required for root and root hair growth in Arabidopsis. VTI13 is a SNARE predicted to fuse mobile endosomes to the lytic vacuole, and VPS26C is the defining subunit of the Arabidopsis Retriever complex predicted to function in the recycling of plasma membrane proteins. Genetic analysis of VTI13 and VPS26C has shown that they are both necessary for root growth, proximal meristem development, root hair growth, and cell wall organization. To further understand these phenotypes, I performed RNA sequencing of the vti13 and vps26c transcriptomes to determine if mis-expression of genes within the vti13 and vps26c backgrounds were contributing to these phenotypes. Using this approach, I identified four cell wall proteins involved in root or root hair growth that are conserved in most plant species. I am currently testing if the mis-expression of these genes in vti13 or vps26c contributes to the mutant root and root hair phenotypes in Arabidopsis seedlings.
