Abstract
As the climate crisis continues to drive global average temperatures up, many species ranges have begun to shift toward higher latitudes and elevations. Bats are the only flying mammal and may have unique physiological limitations on their ability to shift their elevational range. This research aims to understand factors that might limit bat species and populations to lower-elevation and -latitudinal areas as global average temperatures rise. I used ArcGIS Pro and species ranges representing 1,400+ bat species from the Map of Life to characterize bat elevational ranges and quantify factors that might limit species movement. Using R, I am investigating patterns of elevational range differences among species.
