Abstract
Background: Champlain Community Services (CCS) is a Developmental Services and health care provider serving Vermonters with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). CCS strives to build a community “where everyone participates and everyone belongs.” One challenge CCS faces when evaluating their organization is incorporating each stakeholder group’s perspective, which is especially relevant when working with the IDD population, as their perspectives have historically been overlooked. This project aims to address each CCS group’s values to measure the domains that matter the most. Methods: We conducted a prospective mixed-methods cross-sectional survey using a REDCap questionnaire with multiple-choice and open-ended World Health Organization Quality of Life domain-based items querying quality of life and perception of success at CCS. Stakeholders included CCS service recipients, DSPs, family members, board members, and other CCS community members to identify quality-of-life domains shaping perceptions of success. Results: 36 surveys were completed: 7 (19%) individuals receiving CCS services, 15 (42%) Direct Service Professionals (DSPs), and 14 (39%) Other. Community engagement was the highest-valued service across groups. 71% of individuals receiving services would love to see additional services or programs offered, with 42.8% specifically requesting sexual health and wellness programming. Among service recipients, social relationships were the most important quality-of-life domain (43%), and 86% felt that current CCS offerings helped them meet this domain very or extremely well. Conclusion: The importance of community was consistent across all stakeholders. Future programming should aim to increase community and social relationship building. These findings will help inform the upcoming CCS strategic planning process.
