Abstract
Adequate nutrition is essential for maternal health and optimal fetal development. Poor nutrient intake is linked to adverse outcomes, yet many women face confusion due to persistent myths about what foods are safe during pregnancy. In Connecticut, low birthweight and preterm birth remain significant public health concerns, contributing to infant illness, early mortality, and heavy economic costs, including billions in national spending each year. Since nutrition is a key modifiable factor, providing clear, evidence-based guidance is critical and requires interprofessional collaboration while accounting for social determinants that shape dietary access and choices. To help address these gaps, a pamphlet was created for Malta House residents and staff, which was well-received and helped encourage ongoing conversations about healthy eating during pregnancy.
