Abstract
Background: Strength assessment methods include Manual Muscle Testing (MMT), Handheld Dynamometry (HHD), and isomechanical dynamometry (Biodex). MMT, the current clinical standard, has poor reliability and accuracy compared to the gold standard Biodex. HHDs are reliable and accurate, but lack standardized protocol, influencing their validity. Objective: Determine the accuracy of shoulder strength measures using two different HHD testing protocols, compared to the Biodex. Methods: 15 healthy subjects will be recruited; for each, shoulder rotational strength will be assessed via Biodex, therapist-supported HHD, and a fixed HHD. Accuracy will be determined using intraclass correlation coefficients.
