Abstract
Constipation is a common and often underrecognized problem in primary care, particularly among patients on chronic opioid therapy and those with limited access to consistent medical follow-up. In rural primary care settings, constipation frequently leads to patient discomfort, reduced quality of life, inappropriate medication use, and avoidable emergency department visits. Despite its prevalence, patient education around evidence-based bowel regimens is inconsistent and often lacks clear, accessible guidance. This gap highlights the need for standardized, low-cost educational interventions that can be implemented directly within primary care clinics.
