Abstract
The work I started during my fellowship addressed whether two Cystic Fibrosis (CF) treatments, Tezacaftor and Ivacaftor, lead to toxicity in human lung-specific cell types, such as bronchial epithelial (HBE) cells. Some of the work had been already completed. My particular task was to work with HBE cells. I learned tissue culturing techniques and experimental design and then did a trial run, without drug treatment, to master the assay techniques. Although I will finalize the work this summer, my fellowship experience has been invaluable and will help me complete a critical experiment by assessing the toxicity of these CF drugs.
