Abstract
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a product of the cannabis plant that has recently gained widespread popularity as a natural remedy for common ailments. Widely-legalized and readily available, CBD is most frequently used as a complementary or alternative medicine for relief of muscle pain. However, there is a lack of peer-reviewed and appropriately-controlled literature in which the cellular and molecular mechanisms of CBD affecting myalgia have been studied. This Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship Grant explored the hypothesis that CBD exposure affects myocyte differentiation and agonist-induced production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and pain-provoking eicosanoids.
