Abstract
The crisis of May 1968 in France was an important moment during a year which saw a sharp rise in youth activism and radicalism. Paris was a center for youth radicalism due to the large student population. In early May, student protests on Parisian universities soon spilled over into the streets. This spawned a month long crisis involving major strikes which paralyzed the nation economically and politically. This study looks at the events of May in Paris through American print media. The presentation of the crisis of May in the media appeared more reflective of American concerns about radicalism and communism then about a factual presentation of the events. The study focuses mainly on the depiction of youth radicalism and the presentation of President Charles de Gaulle.
