Abstract
Depression and anxiety are prevalent yet often undiagnosed conditions that significantly impact individuals' overall well-being. This presentation explores the challenges associated with identifying these mental health disorders in their early stages, the crucial role that healthcare providers play in initiating conversations surrounding mental health and highlights the potential consequences of delayed detection and barriers to mental health care. The primary care setting serves as a pivotal entry point for individuals seeking medical assistance and offers a unique opportunity for proactive mental health screening. By examining current screening methodologies and integrating innovative tools and technologies, healthcare providers can enhance their ability to detect signs of depression and anxiety during routine patient encounters. With the ongoing mental health crisis, it is vital that primary care providers foster a supportive and stigma-free environment, promoting open communication between patients and healthcare professionals in addition to timely treatment.
