Abstract
Hydrophosphination is an atom efficient phosphorus-carbon bond synthesizing reaction. Many instances of this reaction in the literature exhibit redundant reagents that fail to show the reaction’s potentially wide range of reactivity. The aim of this project is to synthesize several novel substrates then have them undergo hydrophosphination with the assistance of a copper based catalyst. This effort will expand the tabulated reactivity of hydrophosphination while also studying how the electronic properties of the substrates affect the catalyst’s reactivity. Thus far, the project is still underway, with efforts still being placed on synthesizing the substrates required for hydrophosphination. The reactions in this project will be carried out in an inert atmosphere, requiring the use of air free chemistry techniques. Furthermore, the products of hydrophosphination will need to be characterized in order to ensure that the reaction proceeded as planned.
