Abstract
Photocatalytic conversion of C1 molecules into fuels and other valuable chemicals is an important industrial research focus. Among C1 chemicals, methanol is regarded as an attractive base material because many useful chemicals can be derived from it. We focus on changing the reaction conditions, specifically the concentration of gaseous methanol and oxygen to improve upon the visible light photoactivity of porous WO3 based materials. Our reactions reveal the conversion of methanol into multiple products with intermediate oxidation levels, under mild conditions. Furthermore, these studies show the role of reaction conditions have on the mechanism of methanol photooxidation on WO3.
