Abstract
This project aims to create and distribute a pamphlet about acupuncture during the birthing process for labor analgesia for the Family Medicine, Integrative Medicine clinic at Central Maine Medical Center for labor, along with facilitating a session for clinicians working on labor and delivery. This intervention is based on evidence-based medicine that acupuncture during labor decreases the duration of childbirth and reduces the use of analgesia, oxytocin, urinary retention, and the occurrence of postpartum hemorrhage. The pamphlet may also benefit birthing people with opioid use dependence by providing an option for non-opioid analgesia during labor. Similarly, this project provides preliminary qualitative data suggesting the benefit of integrative medicine community collaboration to reduce c-sections for breech presentations.
