Abstract
Anatomically, the lip has 3 components: cutaneous, vermilion and mucosal. The lip is considered a high risk location of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma, and it was recently determined that the vermilion lip confers a higher risk when compared to the cutaneous lip. We would now like to determine the risk of cSCC of the mucosal lip to see whether or not it bears equivalent risk to that of the vermilion lip. Clinicians do not routinely distinguish between these two anatomical locations in the medical record. We ask whether recording this information would be of value.
