Abstract
This study examines how pre-service teachers (PTs) plan to select and sequence student work during class activities, once they are in the classroom, and why their selecting and sequencing plans change. The 10 PTs that participated documented demographics pertaining to their students, designed problem-based lessons, and planned how to select and sequence. While they were teaching their lesson, they recorded which students they chose and what their strategies were. After teaching, they reflected on why they made their decisions, how their plans and selections differed, what led to the differences, and what they would change about their choices. We are currently analyzing and coding the data to identify patterns across participants. Our goal is to build on existing research and create a deeper understanding of selecting and sequencing related decisions in math classrooms.
