Abstract
Bacterial keratitis is a corneal infection that requiresstrict and time-consuming treatment, often involving repetitive antibiotic eye drop use. As an approach to developing a more efficient treatment, immunogold bioconjugate nanoparticles were synthesized for targeted labeling of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a common pathogen resulting in keratitis. The nanoparticles were characterized utilizing size, surface charge, and UV/Visible spectroscopy absorbance. The antibody conjugated nanoparticles with poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) coating showed an increase in diameter and a slight peak absorbance wavelength shift. Future work will involve further characterization of the particles and exposure to P. aeruginosa to observe the efficacy of the targeted labeling.
