Abstract
Two short decades prior to the Great War, nations gathered in Chicago to show their power and presence on the global stage. Competition between representations of French and German industries and intellectuals was powerful as each nation strived to assert its superiority. This research examines German displays of independence in competition with French representations of intellectual prowess to provide an overview of Franco-German relations during the 1890s.
