Abstract
Patients with history of mood disorders and substance use disorders often have difficulty with controlling their anxiety and depression as well as difficulty adhering to medication. Inpatient psychiatry allows them to follow a somewhat standardized schedule along with close tracking of medications, but their PCPs and day to day routines do not provide them with such structure. Patients may benefit from behavior modification and implemented routine steps that are proven to help with mood. Research has been compiled on easy to do tasks that are not limited by time and money, and have been presented in an easy to read brochure that can be distributed to patients. By keeping our patients from going through acute episodes, we may minimize overall healthcare costs and costs of visits.
