Abstract
Phosphorus (P) total maximum daily limits have been established for the Vermont portion of the Lake Champlain Basin in response to the threat excess nutrients pose to water quality. The Vermont Agency of Transportation is working to improve P removal in stormwater infrastructure to help meet watershed reduction targets. We are evaluating three roadsides and filters enhanced with alum-based DWTRs on the removal of TP, SRP, DOP, PP, and Cl during storm events. Findings can inform efforts by transportation agencies to implement sustainable, low-cost, and low-maintenance practices that reduce concentrations of P in runoff along transportation networks.
