Abstract
Beginning in 1958, families from the Netherlands began settling in the northwestern region of Addison County, Vermont and established a Christian Reformed community. While not always outwardly visible, this population has made a continued impact on the community around them for decades. This thesis addresses the history of this population, as well as the way it functions as a diasporic group. Utilizing qualitative research methods, this work tells the story of how Christian Reformed Netherlander immigrants, and their descendants, show up in the broader community and maintain their connections to heritage through the sectors of events, businesses, and farming, education, and religion—which act as diasporic anchors—while also experiencing patterns of assimilation and Americanization.
