Abstract

An examination of female agency in chivalry through a close reading of the romances of Chrétien de Troyes. This thesis argues there exists a medieval model of mutual chivalry that balances power between two people in various relationships and allows them to grow together over the course of a quest. It is also argued that this model may be applied to modern relationships.
