Abstract

This creative thesis examined the historiography of WWI, as well as verbal and visual primary sources from the period, in order to create an essay and series of artworks about the period. I decided to create the artwork using illustrative techniques such as pen and ink, water-soluble graphite, and watercolor. I first investigated the history of the period for information on themes such as class, gender, and religion, and then translated those themes into pictorial representations, taking influence from the artists of the WWI era.
