Censorship laws vs. hate speech in online social networks: A computational approach
Abstract
To eradicate hate speech on social media, New Zealand, and the U.S. joined the "#ChristchurchCall". Germany, France governments established censorship laws while the war between Russia, Ukraine broadcast hatred. Besides, Singapore, Turkey decided against hate speech expurgation. Among different methods, we attempt to measure who is successfully discouraging online hate speech. To our knowledge, there has not been any such previous study. As a method, we compare tweet compliance status on recent tweets classified as hate speech from each of the above-mentioned countries. The results will inform any future governing body to adopt the appropriate approach toward mitigating hate speech
