Abstract

Myosin Binding Protein C (MyBP-C) is a chain-like protein found in “sarcomeres”, the molecular structures responsible for force generation in vertebrate muscles. One end of MyBP-C anchors the protein within the sarcomere, while the other end regulates muscle force and motion. Surprisingly, when genetically modified MyBP-C is expressed early in zebrafish development, muscle cells fail to develop sarcomeres. This suggests elements of MyBP-C may inhibit early stages of muscle development, and that timing of MyBP-C expression is critical. By expressing versions of MyBP-C with either end deleted, I hope to identify the MyBP-C domains that are responsible for this phenotype.
