The effects of Imatinib treatment on the liver
Conference Year
2024
Abstract
Imatinib is a tyrosine kinase inhibitor used to treat a variety of diseases, like cancer. When treating individuals with chronic diseases, imatinib has shown to cause liver detriment. To understand the potential of this drug as a broad treatment option, exploring if the liver is damaged in healthy controls is important. Male C57BL/6 (n=4/group) were either treated with Imatinib (100mg/kg bwt) or were not. The livers of these animals were excised and preserved at 80°C. Liver samples were weighed and homogenized. We are currently preforming a triglyceride assay and a thiobarbituric reactive substances assay to assess potential liver damage.
