Conference Year

Abstract
The objective of this study was to evaluate whether the consumption yogurt enriched in probiotic strains would prevent or attenuate weight gain a mouse model. Male and female five-week-old obese (B6 Lepob/ ob (B6.Cg-Lepob/J) and corresponding wildtype control C57BL/6J mice were fed isoenergetic diets either supplemented with standard yogurt or different combinations of yogurt enriched with probiotic strains (Lactobacillus plantarum KABP-051, Bifidobacterium BB-12) for six weeks. Feed intake and body weight were measured weekly. While we observed no difference in feed intake, consumption of probiotic yogurt resulted in a significantly lower body weight compared to the control group (P=0.035).
