Abstract
This 28-page report summarizes concerns about school food, who eats school food in Vermont, the cost of school food and how it is paid for in Vermont, food procurement by schools, and the USDA commodity food program used by schools. It describes programs that support using local food in schools in Vermont, other states, and nationally. Recommendations for improving school food are provided. Appendices include profiles of food programs in individual Vermont schools, and sample school food policies.
