Abstract

This study investigates differences in electric vehicle (EV) charging behavior between rural and urban areas. Rural driving needs differ in terms of distances traveled and vehicle attributes. Rural regions also have fewer public EV charging locations. These differences potentially affect EV charging patterns (how, when, and where). This study will evaluate spatial and temporal EV charging patterns to reveal differences in home charging duration, frequency, and peak load in different geographic regions. The findings will provide insights to improve infrastructure planning to support expanded EV access in rural contexts, helping inform policies that promote inclusive and sustainable transportation.
